Macbook 2007 2.1 and a 32gb usb. The finished product is not seen as a bootable device. On the 2nd build attempt, I got a warning: "Partition #2 contains a iso9660 signature." I told it to leave it as such. We will see what happens. Oh, also before that, I got a warning that the partition changes would not be recognized until a reboot, so I rebooted. I also am confused about this loopback.cfg. Where is that supposed to come from? I'm using Cinnamon 19.3 iso prepared for mac by Matt Gadient. Okay, this build just finished and also doesn't work. I will look further into loopback.cfg
Admin reply: After some mails Bob and me figured out, that his USB stick was broken. He took another stick and now Linux Mint 19.3 Cinnamon successfully booted from the stick.

You can skip 2 commands by using `mkdir -p ....` which automatically creates nonexisting parent folders along with the requested one :)
Admin reply: Hi Ryccardo,
thank you! I've improved the section.

I'm installing LinuxMint 19.3 64bit on a macmini 2.1 (mid 2007). I used a 32Go usb 2.0 key. The only thing I needed to adapt from your step by step is the size of the partition for the linux image. +1700M is too short of course (the iso file is around 2.2 Go). I've setup a +8000M size and the 7,9 Go is perfect ! Thanx again
Admin reply: Hi Max,
I am happy, that it was useful for you. Thank you for telling your Linux version and Mac combination. Once a few more do that, I will add an overview table to the page.
